Baker, Tirey: Commission should regulate, enforce bingo District Attorney Charles Baker and Sheriff John Mark Tirey filed responses in court this week which advocate that the Walker County Commission, not the sheriff, is responsible for regulating and enforcing electronic bingo. In sometimes blistering words, they also criticized last week’s motion from a local bingo hall, saying the bingo hall was only trying to gain a “competitive advantage” and get the court to do what they couldn’t get the county commission to do. Cain hoping to unseat District 2 incumbent Local veterinarian Dr. David Cain announced Tuesday he is running for the city of Jasper District 2 council seat. Cain said he has actually thought about running for the office the last couple of elections, but then he would generally just put the thought out of his mind. “At the time I’d say ‘Well that’s not really something that’s of value for your time right now,’” Cain said. “Then every time I’d do that I’d get the nagging feeling that I should have went ahead.
